Project Brief

Bangladesh, from business point of view has been considered as an emerging tiger of Asia since the middle of the last decade and accordingly telecom, among others has become one of the country's leading service industries contributing more than 1.5 percent to the GDP and creating over 250,000 job opportunities.

Dhaka Telephone Company Ltd. (DTCL) registered with the Registrar of the Joint stock Companies and Firms on June 14'2004 as a private company limited by shares with its main objective to operate PSTN business in the country. The company was initially awarded Zonal Licenses for South-East (Chittagong), North-East (Sylhet, North-West (Bogra) and South-West (Khulna) Zones on October 09'2004 and thereby started operation formally on July 06, 2006 from the South-East Zone at Chittagong with its main switch room in Dhaka. The Company has availed a syndicated term loan from following 11 different Banks as the members of Syndication wherein Dutch-Bangla bank limited was the Lead Arranger.

It is worth mentioning that as a matter of principle the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) authority, on September 09'2007 has converted the Zonal Licenses into National one and accordingly the company has to change its project implementation strategy to cover the capital city to have some competitive edge over others.
